Contracts Manager

The ideal candidate for this position would be someone with previous experience working within the Construction Industry dealing with End Users, Tier 1 and Tier 2 Contractors.

The work involves;

  • Reviewing Contracts (including payment terms)
  • Negotiating Contracts with End Users and Sub-Contractors
  • Progressing Milestone Payments
  • Ensuring P&L for Projects (including Compensation Events) meets specific targets
  • Reviewing Contracts throughout the duration to ensure variations are claimed in a timely manner
  • Review and progressing technical issues
  • Variation costing
  • Collation of site logs
  • Production of project programmes
  • Attending commercial and technical meetings with the End User.

The successful candidate will preferably be degree qualified in relation to Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management with an electrical / manufacturing bias.  Involvement with the supply chain and a good understanding of Framework Agreements is essential.

 Gear Plate Wirer, Skilled / Semi Skilled Electrical Production Operative, Electrician and Production Operative

In 2020 Blackburn Starling are set to celebrate our 150th year of manufacturing in Nottinghamshire.

Over the years we have proudly supplied the UK’s water, energy, telecommunications, chemical, security, coal, oil and gas industries as well as Nottingham’s very own Tramline. Blackburn Starling has also undertaken several international projects supplying customers such as Khalda Petroleum.

Due to an increase in work volume Blackburn Starling are looking to strengthen our already highly skilled, highly motivated production department.

We are ideally looking for individuals with a background in the production of Motor Control Centres, this can include:

  • Wiring of gear plates
  • Knowledge of DOL and ASD starters
  • ICA wiring experience
  • A history of working with schematic diagrams.

The successful applicants will join our production department who’s daily tasks will include:

  • Wiring and laying out of electrically engineered control panels to the highest specification
  • Working with your direct management and your team to achieve our internal and customer demands

Copper Operative

Our copper team are looking for someone:

  • With a strong background in the manufacture of busbar systems for Control Panels
  • With the ability to design standard and non-standard busbar systems
  • Who has good attention to detail
  • Is mechanically minded.

The successful applicant will join our copper team who’s daily tasks will include:

  • Designing busbar systems
  • Cutting, Punching, Bending and fitting lengths of copper
  • Working with the Copper team to achieve our internal and customer requirements
  • Contribute to the overall success of Blackburn Starling.

Skilled / Semi Skilled Sheet Metal Fabricator

Working on light to medium fabrications, applicants must have a minimum of 3 years sheet metal working experience. Duties include MIG & TIG welding various metals. Applicants must be able to work to engineering production drawings with minimum supervision. Previous experience using CNC sheet metal machinery is preferred but not essential.

Sales & Tendering Engineer

Working as part of a small team within our busy tendering / engineering office and reporting directly to the Tendering Manager, duties include; preparing tenders for low voltage motor control centres/switchboards/control panels etc., following up completed tenders and progressing to order status, external communication with customers and liasing internally with the engineering / commercial departments. Applicants must be educated in electrical or control engineering and have attained the necessary qualification – degree, HND, HNC, ONC or completed and approved apprenticeship – and have gained the appropriate experience in a similar role. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be conversant with Microsoft Excel, have the ability to work to tight deadlines, be flexible in their approach and have a positive and proactive approach when dealing with customers.

Systems Engineer(s)

Based in our Systems Integration Department and reporting to our Project Managers, the roles will involve:

• Management of specific projects through to completion.
• System design, software programming, testing, commissioning and documentation to meet the customer’s requirements and the specific contract specifications.
• Programming software using the latest technology and preferred engineering techniques.

The ideal candidate will have a range of skills and experience including;

• Programming of the following PLC and SCADA systems; Mitsubishi (GC Works/IEC Developer), Siemens S7 (TIA Portal), Rockwell (RS Logix 5/500/5000), Intellution IFix, Siemens WinCC.
• Knowledge of Industrial Networks architecture such as Devicenet and Profibus would be an advantage.
• Computer literate.
• Familiarity with the full project lifecycle from understanding of the customer requirement specification through to commissioning.
• Working to ISO9001:2008 quality standards.
• Good interpersonal skills across the spectrum of a typical controls and integration contract.
• A minimum of 2 years SCADA & PLC programming experience.
• An HNC or equivalent in an Engineering Discipline.

Electrical Project & Design Engineer(s)

Working in our busy Design and Engineering Department and reporting to our Project Managers, applicants must have previous experience in the design of LV Switchgear and Motor Control Centres/Control Panels. The ideal candidate will be computer literate and have excellent communication skills. The ability to manage the full project lifecycle (e.g. production of general arrangement drawings, schematic wiring diagrams, bill of materials, test documentation, method statements/risk assessments etc.) is essential. Knowledge of the relevant British Standards is desirable.
